About me

My name is Samuel Ma and I have a passion for photography.

On April 2007 I took a small Sony DSC-P200 point-and-shoot camera to a modern pentathlon competition to take some photos. When I arrived home, I imported them to iPhoto, took some time playing with the exposure, contrast and saturation sliders and randomly applied available digital effects. I noticed that I could easily get really good looking pictures from usual and normal point-and-shoot photos. I began looking at photography from a different perspective.

Four months later, I bought my first DSLR, a Nikon D80. I shot events and uploaded the photos to a website (Portuguese Military College Alumni). I learned everything I know about photography techniques and digital photography from the internet and from experience.

On February 2010 I decided to create a "serious" personal photo gallery and chose Zenfolio for this purpose.

About this website

I decided to call my Zenfolio website - Samuel Ma's Art of Photography. S and M (the initials of my name) concatenated with the word art equals smart. That's why the logo says smart photography and the link to my website is smart.zenfolio.com.

I use Zenfolio mainly to share my photos with family and friends through the web. Some galleries have restricted access while others are viewable by everyone. So feel free to browse every available gallery. And since "There are two people in every photograph: the photographer and the viewer" - Ansel Adams - all comments are welcome.

If you want a $5 discount when starting your own Zenfolio gallery, you can use my referral code - EUE-3ZP-BMZ
